Day 41- Troy City Marina, Troy, NY

 DAY 40  May 26 (continued)

Took a couple of pictures to finish out yesterday. Saw that a lot of folks had already viewed Day 40 so I am adding them here so they aren't missed. 

This sailboat has dropped, or "un-stepped", their mast. Check out the wood bracing they created to support the mast until they are finished with the low bridges of the loop.

Beautiful sunset last night to finish the day.

DAY 41  May 27
Today was a no travel day for us. Took care of boat chores. Exciting things like buying groceries and getting the extra fenders out for the locks. 

This building is across from the marina. It was the most vegetation I have ever seen on a building.

Every once in a while you see a sign that, I'm sure, makes perfect sense to the folks that own it, but taken in the abstract by strangers like us, it just makes you giggle.

It is so green here and the flowers are all blooming.

I went to the Troy Memorial Day Parade. It was a typical "small town" parade, even though Troy is over 50,000 people.

These young guys were putting on a fun show.

The bubble machine was a fun addition.

There is a large place called Dinosaur Bar-B-Q. We ate there, it was very good.

This concrete company had a huge message on the side of the  mixer tank supporting someone's cancer fight. Unfortunately it was spinning the wrong way to easily read.

Somebody has to sweep up after the parade!

Tomorrow we go through the first lock in the Erie Canal system heading towards the Great Lakes.

  Wow! Amazing! Incredible! Life changing, maybe not. Life changing is a comment that several people have made about this trip. But, we have learned that they had never lived on a boat before. They had hardly ever planned a route, anchored, docked, slept at anchor, handled lines, encountered weather and done all the things that Paul and I took for granted because we had both done many times in the past.  For this we are both thankful for the history we brought into this trip.  Paul's knowledge and past experience and research made the trip safe, fun and easy. Day 210-212- November 13-15 Two George's Marina, Shalimar, FL to Lighthouse Marina, Panama City, FL

Why not spend a couple of days in Fort Walton Beach?  Better yet, WHY spend a couple of days in Fort Walton Beach, a mere 30 miles from Pensacola?  Well, it wasn't the plan.  The day I moved the boat from the Navy Base to downtown Pensacola, I noticed that the alternator wasn't putting out any juice.  "What up wid dat?"  I replaced the alternator on the last day of May, in the Chesapeake.  Thinking that I could deal with it by running the generator of the battery got low, we left Pensacola.  It was the nasty smell of something burning that convinced me that I really should stop and get this resolved. So, we found ourselves at Two George's Marina in Shalimar, FL for three nights. The yard was great, getting us moored up and arranging for the mechanic to come aboard.  He didn't make it to the  boat until late afternoon the next day, but took both alternators (the original one that failed in the spring, and the new one) to a local shop.  Th...

Day 230- December 3 FINAL DAY Saint Augustine, FL to Jacksonville, FL

No, it is NOT an early departure, the sun is just coming up later! See, there it is. Still an early departure on my time schedule. We saw this anchored just North of St Augustine.  I had seen it on YouTube.  This fellow made this in his back yard in Oklahoma and documented the whole thing.  It took years.  Check out SV Seeker on YouTube. We started the day with several sightings of white pelicans and numerous dolphins. Of course, they were camera shy. Those Floridians use a lot of power. So a story goes with this.  The guy in the red boat is named Wally Moran.  A Canadian with a somewhat checkered past (would that be 'chequered?') is a self-proclaimed ICW guru.  He's done the waterway for 20 years.  Probably because he can't go back to Canada.  In addition to pontificating on various fora and sailing publications, he runs an annual "Sail to the Sun Rally".  For the low, low price of $995 you can follow him down the ditch and he will show...
