Day 59- Dow's Lake, Ottawa, CA

DAY 59  June 14
Ottawa Walk, Bike Ride, and Kayak Day

Bilingue Absurdite'

Paul saw this guy on an early morning walk. First big wildlife we have seen.

A bunch of Italian cars appear to have all broken down in the same spot.

Ottawa Italian Festival's Grand Finale Weekend included comedy, music,
performances, car show and more. The car show was next to the marina. We rode the LECTRIC bikes right past them.

Vespa, n'est pas?

Ferrari made a motorcycle?

The bike path is adjacent to the canal from the marina at Dow's Lake to the final Rideau Canal locks 1-8 downtown.

Lisgar Collegiate Institute

The first eight locks on the Rideau Canal, a 'flight', where you leave a lock and are immediately in the next.  These locks, in the heart of the city, bring you up from the Ottawa River.  The land in the distance is Quebec Province.  We stayed about 3 miles up-stream from here at Dow's Lake, near Lock #9.
Had we done these 8 locks it would have taken a minimum of 3 hours. Then we would have turned around and done them the other way for another 3ish hours. I think you understand why we just looked at them, huh?

We did this museum tour. It was very interesting with an excellent audio guide that described all the displays.

I went for a kayak ride around Dow Lake and caught this cormorant off guard.
He took off quickly.

He looked calm on the surface,
but I know he was paddling like crazy underneath.

Philadelphia fleabane

I thought it looked even taller than 45 stories from my kayak.
The locals told us it only has TWO elevators!

Looked out the back of the boat at the marina and saw this.
These folks worked hard at paddling that boat.

Finished the day and the Ottawa visit with hors d'oeuvres, dinner and dessert thanks to my friend Karen, at her condo.

Karen, thanks for a great time in Ottawa!
