Day 85 & 86- Little Current, ON with side trip to The Pool via Baie Fine

We actually backtracked today!  Leaving Little Current, we took a short trip to look at Baie Fine, a 10 mile long, narrow ribbon bay that is actually not far from Killarney, if you were a bird.   We had heard about it.  At the far end of the bay, the channel narrows for about a mile before you turn into a basin called "The Pool".  On a normal summer weekend, legend has it that there may be as many as a dozen boats here.  Also, the cruising guides go to some length to caution about the rocks and lack of navigation aids.  We found only two boats there.  One of them is our old stalking horse, Nauti Dog!

The entrance to Baie Fine.

On the way there, we found these two on East Mary Island.

Not nearly as many homes. Actually just a few.

Another one of those in-law conveniences.

This area is known for its white granite.

A small beach, amongst the walls of rock, the family was taking advantage of.

A rock without a home. It was refreshing to see just nature at its best.

Anchored in the Pool.  Would you believe it was the first time I have anchored this boat?

After anchoring I threw the kayak in the water and investigated The Pool.

A field of blooming pickerelweed.

The rocks varied in color and size.

Sparganium americanum also known as American Bur-reed.
The burrs reminded me of cockleburs of South Dakota.

Another boater pointed out the creek that fed the pool.
I checked it out, until a tree stopped me.

Oh, yes.  I forgot.  The cruising guides did mention that you need to set your anchor well, there is a lot of grass on the bottom!

A muddy bottom too!

Spotted more interesting rocks on the return trip to Little Current.

The only resort along the way was a private one.

Steep granite cliffs close aboard, but we are in 70 feet of water.

Went by the Strawberry Island Lighthouse again.

Back to Little Current before the sun went down, just before 8 PM.  The bridge tender obligingly provided the bridge clearance at 16 feet 8 inches.  Plenty of room for us to sneak under.  The bridge tenders here always sign off with "Safe Voyage!"
