Day 138-140- Sept 1-2-3 More of Michigan City, MI

  DAY 138

September 1

We are still in Michigan City. Today is one of those glamorous days. You really think living on a boat removes you from daily household type chores??? NOPE!!

There were more things we had to do, but I think you get the idea...

  DAY 139

September 2
Another day in Michigan City.

Stopped in Shoreline Brewery for a brew and some lunch.

Yup, I even went to an outlet mall. Twice.
I had fun helping Paul spend his money on updating his wardrobe with clothes that actually fit.

What we don't have pictures of, and it's a real screw up, is the "Oktoberfest", or should we say "Septemberfest" that was going on just across from the marina. All sorts of food trucks, a chiropractor, a tarot and crystal reader and a guy selling gutters. With the obligatory oompah band in the daytime and rock and roll at night. All four days of the holiday weekend. The last hurrah of summer, the beaches were packed, Septemberfest was packed, the marina locals were all around.

The view from the bridge walking back from shopping.

Another WPA project.

A memorial to the First Responders who lost their lives.

This is a lighthouse museum. We didn't go in.
You can only learn so much about lighthouses, right?

DAY 140

September 3
Yup, one more day in Michigan City. I promise, tomorrow we move!

Paul's morning walk pictures.

My morning walks took me away from the marina area to a section of beach that is primarily summer rental houses. For three days, the street was lined with cars, every driveway filled. Tuesday morning, empty streets, not an Illinois license plate to be seen and the locals have reclaimed their territory.

Some wildlife came out to play again, too.

This catwalk was still intact and usable.

Of course, all considerate boaters obey the 'No Wake' signs...

This really shows the importance of the natural grasses to help prevent erosion.

Time to go. The bikini beach volleyball players have left...

This is the same beach lifeguard stand from a few days ago.
Looks lonely without all the people.

I found this path to the beach while bike riding around the neighborhood. The blue mats made it really easy to get over the sand dune to the beach.
I rode my bike to the top but walked down to the beach.
There was a big sand drift over a large part of the path.

That dark speck at the top is my bike.

Green monuments to a busy beach weekend. I do have to hand it to the Michigan City Parks and Rec. The place was spotless and the beaches were packed all weekend.
The locals were glad to have the beach back to themselves.

The band shell in Washington Park. The park encompasses the marina, the beaches, the Septemberfest venue and a zoo. All of this was built during the Depression by WPA crews.
