Day 168-172- October 1-5 More at Green Turtle Resort, Grand Rivers, KY to Kenlake State Resort, Hardin, KY to Paris Landing, Buchanan, TN

   DAY 168-169

October 1-2
Green Turtle Resort & Marina

We both took the day off from photo taking and blogging.
That happens when you are at the same place for 8 nights.

DAY 170

Had a HUGE travel day... 19.3 miles to get from Green Turtle to Kenlake.
It did take 3 hours because we stopped at Big Bear Resort for cheaper fuel.
As you can see on the chart, we crossed over from the Cumberland River to the Tennessee River.  Just after leaving Green Turtle Bay Marina.

All of this lake and river system is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority.  On our actual navigation charts, you can see the original Tennessee River bed and in some places the chart shows where entire towns we submerged when the rivers were dammed and the lakes created.

Some very nice homes and communities along the shoreline.

No worries about flooding here, but, quite a set of steps to get to the lake.

You have to be good to back down this ramp
and make the almost 90 degree turn.

Cute!

Perfectly calm in the marina.

DAY 171

These short days are part of our plan to eat up the calendar, but still make some progress.  We want the hurricane season to die down before getting to the Gulf of Mexico.  No doubt you have all heard about the damage done by Hurricane Helene.  While it did not effect us in Kentucky, the damage along the Florida coast is still not known.  Now, a second hurricane is on its way to the Florida coast.  We hope that it won't be too bad and cause much damage.  That is exactly where we have to go to finish this trip.

Early morning walks bring you pretty sunrise views.

Calm waters again.

White pelicans.  Again.  Pretty birds, but they do not like civilization.  They always seem to roost in remote spots like this.

Those hills of Kentucky come right to the waters edge.

Had one looper following us under that pretty sky.

Starting to see more fishermen out on the lake again.

Your basic lake home, sure...

This is the bridge just before we entered the marina. We saw one of these trucks crossing it. I couldn't get the picture, but borrowed one from the web.

It is where truckers go to learn to say meep-meep and go really FAST!

It is obviously mandatory to stand when fishing here.

We are enjoying summer like weather. 88, calm and sunny so I got the kayak out.
I had to get a new Snow Goose picture.

The Coast Guard boat.

Channel markers.

This gives you a better idea of how large they are.

A couple of loopers heading our direction. While kayaking I saw a bald eagle, 2 Great Blue Heron and several turtles. All too swift for me to get a picture.

How about fresh water mussels?

The bottom was littered with empty shells.

When I see red leaves I have to take a picture.

Exposed roots where the water had been high.

Same tree, different view.

Paris Landing Park has nice fishing areas. These folks were busy fishing and waving at me.

A blue bridge!

The Lodge Restaurant generously offered to give us a ride to the their place.
There were 7 of us, they showed up with a club cab pickup and said they were fine with people riding in the back...so away we all went.

Fellow loopers, nice dinner and evening of visiting.

The firepit after dinner was enjoyed by all.

DAY 172

October 5
Another day at Paris Landing Resort & Marina

Paris Landing State Park.  Welcome to Tennessee!  Lovely park with the marina, the lodge, cabins, golf and camping.  And a great hike through the woods on the Raptor Ridge Trail.

Paul contributed these pictures from his morning walk.

At a normal morning hour we both went walking and did the Wetland Loop.

I found more red leaves!

On the way back I introduced Paul to Geocaching. He found his first cache.
If you haven't ever done it check geocaching out here.

Folks from another boat in the marina stopped to admire our boat. I went out and visited with them. I don't know their names, but this is Gringo.
He is an Eclectus Parrot. He apparently likes to talk, but was acting shy.

They showed me his wings, the under feathers were purple, blue and red. Beautiful!! They also explained how the females were bright red with the purple.
Really, I thought?

I looked them up and yes, indeed. This is a male, like Gringo, and a female.

I went out kayaking again. Another calm, sunny and warm day.

Really, it is a turtle, okay, two turtles. I saw at least a dozen of them today.

We will move down the lake again tomorrow to a new location.
Maybe it won't take 5 days to get another blog together, maybe...
