  One of our longer days, going 57.2 miles. These gals were getting their workout before the sun was up. Another beautiful sunrise start. Fort Sumter  Big boats by the apartment buildings. Morning kayaker. Amusing sites. Happy face with an eye patch?? A commercial lifeboat? Someone's man-cave??     Georgetown has a Harborwalk worth checking out if you ever visit. Many eateries, bars, and shops. More of the Harborwalk. More of the Harborwalk. RICE IS KING Rice was introduced to the area as early as 1690, but did not become a major crop until after the Revolutionary War. Local planters made large fortunes cultivating rice - Carolina Gold - in the area's low-lying river estuaries. The crop required a large labor force which meant more African slaves were imported. The slave population was about 85% of the total population of the County throughout the 1800's.  Day 9 - Charleston, SC I'm sure you are expecting a beautiful photo essay of Charleston. One with carriage rides, old architecture, the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, gardens, historic homes, Broad Street, King Street and Rainbow Row to name a few. Well, to see and do all those things YOU need to go to Charleston. We drove by many of those and ooh'd and aah'd but didn't take pictures, except for the bridge as we went over it. Day 8 April 24 I've enlarged the map for those who couldn't read it. Hopefully this helps. It was another early start. Lots of docks in front of homes on this run.   Paul talk- "Good planning (for once) and being pushy with the dockmaster meant that getting out of the Beaufort City marina was a simple matter of disconnecting and letting the tidal current carry us away from the dock.  Yay, after the bumper boat episode yesterday! Along the way, after having zero adventure in one of the known shallow spots, ahead of us we had a boat that we had been following, another which had passed us earlier and a sailboat we were all catching.  Rounding a corner, we saw the whole mob stopped along with a small boat with blue flashing lights .  Before we could catch up to them, the travelers moved along, leaving the small boat.  I just knew we would be the next victim for whoever these guys were.
