Day 230- December 3 FINAL DAY Saint Augustine, FL to Jacksonville, FL

No, it is NOT an early departure, the sun is just coming up later! See, there it is. Still an early departure on my time schedule. We saw this anchored just North of St Augustine.  I had seen it on YouTube.  This fellow made this in his back yard in Oklahoma and documented the whole thing.  It took years.  Check out SV Seeker on YouTube. We started the day with several sightings of white pelicans and numerous dolphins. Of course, they were camera shy. Those Floridians use a lot of power. So a story goes with this.  The guy in the red boat is named Wally Moran.  A Canadian with a somewhat checkered past (would that be 'chequered?') is a self-proclaimed ICW guru.  He's done the waterway for 20 years.  Probably because he can't go back to Canada.  In addition to pontificating on various fora and sailing publications, he runs an annual "Sail to the Sun Rally".  For the low, low price of $995 you can follow him down the ditch and he will show...

Year End Summary

  Wow! Amazing! Incredible! Life changing, maybe not. Life changing is a comment that several people have made about this trip. But, we have learned that they had never lived on a boat before. They had hardly ever planned a route, anchored, docked, slept at anchor, handled lines, encountered weather and done all the things that Paul and I took for granted because we had both done many times in the past.  For this we are both thankful for the history we brought into this trip.  Paul's knowledge and past experience and research made the trip safe, fun and easy. Was it a once in a lifetime trip, YES! We met a lot of very friendly folks. Ate a lot of really good food. Laughed our way around the miles.  Saw so many sights we have to look back on this blog to remember them all. Any way about it we are part of a very small group of people to do this trip. Day 75- Big Chute Marine Railway Lock 44 to Starport Marina before Lock 45

  Today we have officially completed the Trent-Severn Waterway. Okay, we do have one little regular lock left, but we consider it finished. Hopefully you have enjoyed seeing the unusual locks and sights along the way. We certainly have. While we try to show what we have seen and inject some knowledge and humor along the way there is no way that we can show you what we have really experienced. The colors are bright when the sun shines but you don't get to experience the smells, the sounds, the people, the water, the boats. The list goes on and we are very grateful for all of it! Today it was our time and soon our turn to go through The Big Chute. First things first, the disclaimer- Vessel damage may occur... This boat was in line before us and the first to go through today.  The crowd of people watching are from the big Kawartha boat.  They came out in the rain to observe before departing.
