Day 63- Davis, ON (Lock 38) to Lower Brewer's Lock 45

Some days you eat the bear, some days, the bear eats you.  The plan was to leave the Davis lock and go all the way to Kingston.  But dealing with the waning days of the 'off-season' lock hours, we just didn't make it.  The hours are now 10AM to 4 PM.  In reality,as previously mentioned, 10 AM is when the crew arrives.  We have yet to be locked through before 1045.  That, coupled with some delays at intermediate locks due to opposing traffic, we were not able to make it to the last set of locks before 3:30.  So we stopped at Lower Brewer's.

Upper Brewers has a single upper lock, then a small pool and a flight of two locks.  We were at Upper Brewers in decent time, but there was a bit of a wait that ate up the clock.

After the upper Brewer first lock, we entered the first of the flight locks.  I think the locktenders were a little overeager filling the pond (or the reach) between the first and second lock.  As a result, we had this waterfall coming over the lock gate behind us the entire time, including after the lock gates opened ahead.  That meant a bit of a following current going into the next lock.

I think it worth noting that Cheryl had the helm for this whole set of locks and managed them all expertly.  Bravo, Cheryl!

I have a good teacher, that helps.

Sometimes we need reminders along the way.

We were moored up for the night with this boat.  We watched as he singlehandedly corralled his motorbike and fetched it aboard.

Then, at about 8PM, he quietly motored away.  Where could he be going?  We were tied up at the last convenient spot on this stretch.

The last lock of the day, Lower Brewer's.
They have to swing the bridge before we can get in and moor up below the lock on a Parks Canada wall with power.

While waiting for another boat I spotted this tree that refused to give up.

The locktenders repurposed this into a planter.

Perhaps this sign didn't go with this plant??

Don't step outside in the morning, it would wake you up quickly. Gotta love patio doors without a patio.

This guy was crawling around on the lock chamber wall next to me.

Turn your volume up to enjoy this little video.

Another still end of the day on the Rideau Canal gives perfect reflections.
