Days 96, 97, & 98 - Sutton Bay Marina, Sutton Bay, IL

Someone paid for some cool metalwork art but didn't mow the weeds around it.

  DAY 97  July 22

The TART!  Traverse Area Rail Trails.  Great walking or biking.  
You can go all the way to Traverse City, 18 miles away. 
The tunnel of trees was a nice surprise. The temperature dropped at least 5 degrees every time we were in the trees. 

It only looks like I'm pedaling.
We rode south about 5 miles on the trail and turned around. Very nice paved trail.


We found a fixer-upper!

I think this is some kind of voodoo alter to ward off bad taste.  It's not working.


Oh come on, someone worked hard to make this 
fairy garden for our enjoyment along the trail.

Be vewwy quiet!  The twactor is sweeping.

Lots of signage here!

This is a boat launching ramp.  There are no less than four of these crossing beams here.  You would have to really work to avoid them with your sailboat mast still up.  Which is why they are there, to keep the forgetful from whacking into the power lines in town.

Sound advice.  No sooner did we walk past this sign on our way back to the boat, when I came upon a boat's power cable in a pile on the dock where you could kick it or trip over it.  The boat was gone, but it was still plugged in with the breaker on.  I resisted the temptation to throw the whole thing in the water.  I just unplugged it.

  DAY 98  July 23

It rained. 

It rained all morning. It rained all afternoon. It rained all evening.
I really took the day off. Paul baked corn muffins and made chili. Yum!!

Almost READY

Thanks for stopping by to check on our progress on the Great Loop. This is Cheryl writing today. Grady, the gray house/boat cat is now on board and getting adjusted to the new sites, smells and sounds. The plan is to depart the dock on Wednesday morning! Seems like we have been planning for a while and are almost ready to go. Tonight will be the first night sleeping on board. So far the boat is very well equipped and comfortable. Day 4 & 5- Kilkenny, GA to Thunderbolt, GA to Savannah, GA

DAY 4 By now you may have gathered that our daily movements are controlled by not only our desire to move to the next location but by the tides and water levels in certain areas. Today was another of those days. Hell's Gate is the problem area this time. This meant another early departure. Those of you who know Paul know that the earlier the better is his favorite departure time. Those of you who know me know that is not my norm. Oh, the changes one is willing to make to live on the water for 8 months!!   We were already underway when this picture was taken. The colors intensified as it rose.   Snow Goose is ready to move at any hour. Meet Grady. He has adjusted fairly quickly to all the new sounds, smells and movements. Day 1- Jacksonville to Fernandina

  We are READY to go!! We will fly this white burgee which indicates we are doing the Great Loop and the white means we are in progress. The plotter is ready. The course is loaded. We will be traveling via the ICW (Inter Coastal Waterway). The ICW is a series of rivers, streams and cut canals from Miami to Norfolk VA. We will encounter MANY bridges along the way. Some are tall enough that we simply go under them. Others we have to radio the bridge tender and have the bridge opened to allow passage. Some are on set times. Bridges can greatly affect the distance we travel each day. We started with the sun Our first bridge The conditions were perfect, no wind Another bridge.  Random photos of what we saw along the way. Zoom in to see the Maxwell House building and the EverBank Stadium, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. A friend likes tugboats so a few extra pictures of tugs along the way.
