Day 144- September 7 Chicago, IL

DAY 143   September7

Chicago, continued!!

A wide running/walking/biking path was 20' away from Snow Goose. It was busy ALL the time, but, REALLY busy on Saturday morning. It went for 18 miles.

Want to ride an electric bike or scooter? Lyft has these set up all over the city. Best part, you don't have to return it where you find it. Just leave it anywhere. Another person can rent it from there or a van runs around and picks them up and returns them to the charging station.
Paul saw one on the side of the path that was fished out of the lake. Yuck!!

A Chicago Dog. I had one and loved it!!
A proper Chicago dog is an all-beef frankfurter in a poppy seed bun, topped with yellow mustard, neon-green sweet pickle relish, chopped white onion, tomato slices, a dill pickle spear, pickled sport peppers and celery salt.

Paul had one too, but only with mustard. Does that count?

Spotted this beauty on the walk to the parks.

You can rent this pavilion in the park.  You can probably rent the bride, too.
You can get anything in Chicago.

If traditional white is not your thing, short, round and blue is available, too.

We walked to Millennium Park. There was a waiting line to get in!! They checked bags and had us go through a metal detector to get in.

Big boxes with water running down the outside of them. OK?

Oh, now they have faces on them.

OH, now they are fountains too!

Watch this video to see the fascial expressions change and the fountains start.

Another fountain in the park.

Massively big planters.

The flowers are in full bloom.

Cloud Gate
More commonly called "The Bean" is made up of 168
stainless steel plates welded together, its reflective and highly polished exterior has no visible seams. It measures 33 by 66 by 42 feet. Click here for more.

The park had restaurants, bars too.

The final view of the park.

These next photos were taken on the walk to the Willis Tower,
formerly the Sears Tower.

The L Train tracks. It was named L for elevated. Clever, huh?

Had to get at least one photo of an alley between the beautiful buildings.
And yes, I did spot one person urinating against a building.
I didn't feel the need to share that.

Spotted this Target store.

There she is, the Willis Tower. Why is the Willis Tower famous?
For nearly 25 years after its completion, the Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower, held the title of tallest building in the world. 233 S. Wacker Dr. Standing 110 stories tall, its black aluminum and bronze-tinted glass exterior has become emblematic of Chicago, a city crazy about its architecture.

A 60 second elevator ride took up to the 103rd floor. This is what we saw.

Do you think it is real grass? Or fake turf?

We chose to wait until the sun was a little lower in the
sky to get our pictures in the Ledge.

They give you 90 seconds in the Skydeck Ledges, the all glass thing that sticks outside the building.  You can get the wedding done in there.  You can also get an annulment in the elevator on the way down.  If you time it right, you can get all that behind you and still meet the boys in  time to watch the game!

It's our turn!
The floor actually flexes.  Most of the time in my airplane I was lower than this thing.

Another thing to put on my "been there, done that" list.

This was the first graffiti I spotted in downtown Chicago.

Chicago Board of Trade building.

Had a nice dinner at this place.

Timing is everything.  Scheduling our Millennium Park excursion, the Willis (nee Sears) Tower adventure and dinner on the same night as the "Taste of Chicago" down there in that park, saved me from having to go there and look at some fountain.

This building was getting into game mode.

For those to tired to walk. Now they are electric bikes.
With his early morning walk, Paul had 26,320 steps that day. I had half that many and that was enough.

Good night Chicago.
Tomorrow we start the move down the rivers.
