Days 187-189- October 20, 21, & 22 Columbus, MS to Oxbow, MS to Stennis Lock to Kingfisher Bay Marina, Demopolis, AL

If you see typing in blue letters it is a link to more information. For some unknown reason Blogger has decided to eliminate the underline. Sorry for the confusion.

What the cluck?!?

Yup, fog again.

Watch how beautiful it is... until the big ole tow comes along. That means we wait another hour. Oh well, it was a pretty and calm day to do it.

A nightmare for those with OCD.

Quick, get my cape!

The Montgomery was built in 1925 by the Charleston Drydock and Machine Company of Charleston, South Carolina, for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The vessel was used to clear sunken logs called snags and other obstructions from the Alabama, Apalachicola, Black Warrior, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Flint, and Tombigbee Rivers. The Montgomery also helped create the Alabama-Tombigbee-Tennessee river system as an alternate to the Mississippi River by clearing stretches of the waterways that were previously inaccessible and thereby allowing their increased use in national trade and commerce.

Riding the bollards.  The new daredevil sport.

Zoom in close enough and it looks like we go pretty straight.
No such thing as a straight line here.

The terrain is changing to a yellow looking clay.

These guys were playing.

The yellow clay is now looking more white.

We have arrived at the White Cliffs of Epes. These white cliffs are located on the Tombigbee River at Epes, AL. They are part of the Selma Chalk formations which were deposited at about the same time as England’s famous White Cliffs of Dover.

The pictures do not do them justice. Bright white and beautiful!

The colors of the leaves were brighter here.

The reflections created some fun for me.

Do you see the face?

DAY 189
October 22
A non travel day for us. Eating up the calendar...
waiting for hurricane season to end before entering the Gulf.
So what do we do with a day off and a courtesy car??
BUY groceries, go to lunch, do laundry, take a nap...

Saw this monument in Demopolis, AL

So many lives lost, so sad. Everyone was someone's father, brother, son...

Tucked in the marina for another night.
